Mañana, a partir de las 16hs (e incluso un poco antes) vamos a estar cubriendo por tercer año consecutivo la final del festival Eurovision, como siempre, por unaradio.com.ar. Los esperamos!

La tapa es una obra maestra de los tempranos 80s — el agreste monocromo, las figuras sin movimiento ni emoción, el sobrecogedor sentimiento de vacío.(1)

Musically this is pretty wafer-thin fare, the final, exhausted pirouette of a fast fading New Romantic fad. But, oh the visuals! Check out the sleeve, ripping off, I mean ‘paying homage to’ Visconti’s film of the same name, all Helmut Newton Weimar decadence and Aryan cheek bones. Then there’s the video, with Steve Strange dashing around aboard his own ‘Murder On the Orient Express’/’Brideshead Revisited’ costume drama. The decade demanded you had posing down to an art form and Mr Strange could give a master class in it. Gloriously daft, over the top, effete and, well… so very 80s.(2)

Still love what Cope calls the ‘Nazi Bum-Boy’ haircut on the lad back right; very ACR meets ABC.(3)

Hola, si, mundo? Creo que no se habla lo suficiente de las tapas de los discos. Se pierden un paratexto hermoso.

Pense que nunca iba a volver a encontrar el Decadent Action Manifesto; leido a principios de la decada pasada parecia entre ridiculo y tongue in cheek, como quien dice, pero hoy…tiene otro gustito:

Decadent Action are a High Street anarchist-guerrilla organisation whose main aim is to destroy the capitalist system by a leisurely campaign of good living and overspending. We plan to achieve our aims by making capitalism fall on it’ s own sword. If you neglect and ignore capitalism it will not go away, but feed it to excess for long enough and it will eventually burst.
We use the simple economic principles of supply and demand with their intrinsic link to inflation to establish our theories. The state must control these factors to run the economy efficiently; throw in the wild card of massive irrational overspending on seemingly random luxury goods and the government is unable to take control. This will lead to hyper inflation and large scale social unrest, leading to the collapse of the monetary system and disintegration of the state apparatus.

“Carlos Mauli (1852-1923) cuenta entre los mas entusiastas y animosos batalladores socialistas de la primera hora (…). Entregabase a la propaganda con dedicación apostólica y era infaltable en actos, asambleas y polémicas. Solía vestir levita, conforme a una costumbre de la época, no por ostentacion lujosa sino para disimular muchas veces la gastada vejez de otras prendas…

En una oportunidad, Mauli no llegó con su habitual puntualidad a una reunión. Se extrañó su ausencia. Lo hizo con cierta demora y bien pronto se conocieron los motivos: le había nacido una hija -explicó- y a ello debíase que llegara tarde. Y en el acta del comité federal de la primera Federacion Obrera quedó el siguiente testimonio:

“El compañero mauli pide que conste en el acta que le ha dado a su hija, nacida hace dos horas, los nombres de Socialista Marxista”. El acta agrega: “Queda aprobado”. Falta saber si el nacimiento o el nombre…”

…y asi fue que para recordar la caída de la URSS me dispuse a bucear en el tag “URSS” de tumblr, encontrandome con un link a este fabuloso blog llamado Ciudad Futura, lleno de posteos sobre el programa espacial de la URSS (con hermosisimas infografias ¡de produccion propia!), nostalgia por el PCI y que hasta se animó a soñar una camiseta para la “Selección republicana española de fútbol”.
